The Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1923. We can be proud of our past and look forward to our future. Murphysboro is rich in its history. With the help of the Murphysboro Main Street Program, several businesses have renovated the business facade to match the original look of decades ago. Also, the John A. Logan Museum is a great learning tool with archaeological digs that get our children involved and teach them what Murphysboro once was.
As far as our future, both our community and our leaders have, over the years, embarked on several projects to promote the spirit of our hometown including the Smysor Plaza. The Plaza is a beautiful park setting with a fountain that was designed by our local, nationally-renown artist, John Medwedeff. In addition, our children can be proud of our new state-of-the-art General John A. Logan Elementary School. It proves Murphysboro is looking into our future through our children’s eyes.
Opportunities are available for new businesses as well. Currently, there are several businesses taking advantage of our Technology and Industrial Park. Lots are still available for your business opportunity. Please contact the City of Murphysboro at 618.684.4961 for more information.
When it comes time to relax, several options are available. Murphysboro is fortunate to have two great lakes, Lake Murphysboro and Kinkaid Lake, right in our own backyard for the boating, camping, and fishing enthusiasts. For nature lovers, we are blessed by the beautiful landscape of the Shawnee National Forest.
Murphysboro is also home to several events throughout the year including the Murphysboro Apple Festival, St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, and the BBQ Championship Cook-Offs to name a few. The Apple Festival is known to be one of the only “street” festivals left. The festival is family-oriented and provides many free activities. These events bring in excess of 40,000 visitors that also take advantage of our antique specialty shops, restaurants, and other retail shops. These visitors are greeted with a sense of hospitality that only a small town can offer.
This is our community and we can be proud of our accomplishments. With our community spirit and volunteerism, we can ensure a bright future for the Murphysboro community. On behalf of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, we invite you to help shape our future. Together we can make sure Murphysboro is a great place to work, play, and raise our families.
